Former colleague endorses DeGrego for State senate
To the Editor:
My name is Gerald W. Colbert and I reside in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Upon honorable discharge from the USMC I joined the Mount Vernon, N.Y. Police Department.
During my career I received 26 commendations for bravery and arrests from the MVPD and a personal letter of commendation from then U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy for my arrest of a robbery suspect who wounded me with his knife during the arrest.
I recently received news that my friend and former colleague Michael DeGrego was running for Senator in the great state of Connecticut. How lucky you will be to have this fine, upstanding man as your Senator.
Mike is a veteran of the US Air Force and was one of my subordinates on the Mount Vernon Police Dept. You will not find a more honest and compassionate man as Michael DeGrego. He was an outstanding police officer and was involved in all kinds of situations in which his good common sense saved the day.
Coming from the USMC, I stressed discipline in my training of my police officers. Many of them were not happy with my discipline training but Officer DeGrego, as a former military man himself, understood I was only making them aware of situations in order to save their Lives.
I endorse Michael DeGrego with all my heart, for Senator in Connecticut [14th state district]. Please vote for him, I promise you won't be sorry.
