To the Editor:

I am writing to strongly and publicly encourage Themis Klarides to run for governor in 2022.

It’s no secret that our state has been painfully led in the wrong direction for so long, but under our current governor, it doesn’t appear that’s going to change any time soon. Gov. Lamont himself tried his best to distance himself from Dan Malloy in 2018 on the campaign trail, but he has yet to roll back any of Malloy’s actual policies that continue to hold our state back and set us at a disadvantage.

I understand positioning yourself as a different “type” of governor than your predecessor, but if you don’t then take the state in a different direction, what is there to be optimistic about? It is clear that Connecticut needs new leadership, and it’s on the Republican party to provide an alternative.

Former House GOP Leader Themis Klarides not only has a proven record of accomplishment, but has won the tough elections needed to be in a position to enact reforms. Themis has the experience we need in a governor to turn our state around, and is the best possible candidate Republicans have had in at least the past decade. Themis needs to run for governor to save our state.
