Carry the baby to term and consider adoption

To the Editor:

There are always strong opinions as to what to do regarding unwanted pregnancies. Here’s an option that I haven’t heard mentioned. Carry the baby to term and give it up for adoption.

When a baby is conceived, through no fault of its own, I believe that baby should have the opportunity for viability. Every baby has great potential in life if allowed to live. If the mother finds this is not the opportune time for her to bring a baby into her life, why is killing the baby the most common option? Why not allow your life to be disrupted for 8 months and if still not wanted, give the baby away to a couple who is longing for their own child but can’t conceive? You never know whose life will be blessed more. Your baby’s — because it was allowed to live and pursue life and all that entails — or you, because you will know that you gave the baby a chance at life, and aborting the baby will not be weighing on your conscience for the rest of your life.

The Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports legal access to abortion, has more complete data on the number of abortions carried out per year than the CDC. Their data shows more than 53 million babies have been killed in our nation between 1973 and 2014. This is 2019, so imagine how that number has increased. Can’t we move forward and handle unwanted pregnancies in a kinder way?
