Obituary: Thomas J. Fren (Tom), 66, of Milford

Thomas J. Fren (Tom), 66, of Milford, husband of Barbara K. (Stanley) Fren of 43 years, died Jan. 15, in Milford.

Son of the late Edmond and Josephine Baghdady Fren, he was born March 10, 1948, in Bridgeport.

He was a beloved friend to many and gatherings at his home were legendary. His collections of music and movies were extensive and obscure; your request was always granted, and discussions afterwards were lively and boisterous. Tom’s celebration of Halloween was renowned as he would transform himself into the Werewolf, Quasimodo, a Chinese nobleman, or Dracula, with make-up rivaling that of the best Hollywood studios. Neighbors would stop by to see him in full character and were never disappointed. Tom retired from the United States Post Office after 35 years of service. Being an avid animal lover, he was known to rescue abandoned cats on his route, bringing them home to a loving, safe home. The many four-legged friends on his route, including a pot-bellied pig, were always treated to dog biscuits and a soft head rub. Tom’s decade-long friendships with high-school friends included vacations to Las Vegas, New Orleans, San Francisco, the Grand Canyon, Rockingham Park, and Cape Cod. He was never further away than a telephone call, offering sage advice and making plans for the next celebration.

Besides his wife Barbara, Tom leaves behind many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and his beloved cat Max.

He was predeceased by his sister Pamela Fren.
