Robert H. Smith Sr., 88, a longtime resident of Milford, and beloved husband of Phyllis Casertano Smith, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2015.

He was born on August 4, 1927 to the late Henry and Mary Persico Smith.

Mr. Smith served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. He was a general contractor and builder based in Milford, CT for over 40 years. He served as a Milford Police Commissioner, a Director of the Milford Bank and was a life member of the American Legion.

His greatest philanthropic contribution was his involvement with the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps where for 38 consecutive years he served as a Director. He was inducted into the Hurricanes Hall of Fame in 2009 and receive the Heart and Soul Award for his contributions, dedication and selflessness that is the embodiment of the Corps.

In addition to his wife Phyllis, he is survived by his son, Robert H. Smith, Jr. and his wife Christine; his three grandchildren, Emily, Hayley, and Blake and his brother, Henry A. Smith.

He was predeceased by his daughter Deborah Ann Smith; his sisters, Dorothy Harlow and Elizabeth Ahrens.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, at St. Mary Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford, CT. Friends and family may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT.
