Peter S. Vita, 75, of Milford, member of Board of Aldermen, passed away peacefully on Feb. 16, 2016.

He was born on July 1, 1940 in Port Chester, N.Y. to the late Mary and Clemente Vita.

A chief engineer for more than 40 years with the Wendon Company in Stamford, Peter also was very active in his community.

He was a member of the Board of Alderman, chairman of the Sewer Commission and the Library Renovation Committee and also was a member of the Planning and Zoning Board. He was a member of the Republican Town Committee and ran the booth at the Milford Oyster Festival for over a decade. Peter was a Eucharistic Minister and was the president of the St. Joseph Men’s Society of St. Agnes in Milford.

Aside from his accolades, Peter enjoyed golf and taking trips to the Bahamas with his family. He was known for his famous sausage and peppers and was affectionately known as “The Pancake Man” to those who had the privilege of enjoying one of his breakfasts.

He was a selfless and loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Vita; daughters, Maria and Michele (Guy); grandchildren, Tanya (Kenny), Andrea, Allyson and Isabella; sisters, Tina and Nancy (Richard); brothers, Larry (Maria) and Francis; mother-in-law, Mary Bafundi; brother-in-law, Harold (Verna); sister-in-law, Carolyn (Sebastian) and several nieces, nephews, cousins and Godchildren.

Burial in Kings Highway Cemetery, Cherry St., Milford. Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, handled arrangements.
