James A. Schofield, age 73, longtime resident of Milford and beloved husband to Caryl Stirk Schofield, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Bridgeport on December 24, 1939, he was the son of the late James A. and Hetty Smith Schofield.

A 1957 graduate of Milford HS, he went on to Northeastern University in Boston to graduate in 1962 with a degree in business administration. Prior to his retirement, Jim was a self - employed CPA in Milford with Schofield and Burgess.

A dedicated volunteer for over 40 years with the American Red Cross, Jim served tirelessly in many capacities including the Board of Directors, Chapter Chairman, Treasurer and Blood Program Chairman, where he set an example by donating over 120 pints of blood.

Because of his selflessness and dedication, Jim received the Sterling Award for leadership and service from the Tri-State Red Cross. He was also a member of the Milford Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow), incorporator of Milford Hospital, Director of Milford Savings Bank, a United Way volunteer, board member and past president of Milford Homemakers, a 50 year Mason with the Ansantawae Lodge of Milford and a devoted member of the First United Church of Christ in Milford.

In addition to his wife, Caryl, he is survived by his son, Richard Schofield and his wife Karen and his daughter Sandra Schofield Rogers and her husband Jason all of Milford; five cherished grandchildren, Mathewe and Addie Schofield and Bailey, Noah and Jacob Rogers; sister-in-law Janet Roberts of VA, brother-in-law Albert Stirk and his wife Marcia of Milford; his god-child Tara Roberts of VA along with many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 2nd at 11:00 am at the First United Church of Christ, 34 West Main St., Milford. Interment to follow at King’s Highway Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Thursday, August 1st from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross - Milford Chapter, 1 Plymouth St., Milford, CT 06460.
