Obituary: Jack A. Stoeber, age 97, of Milford

Jack A. Stoeber, age 97, a lifelong resident of Milford and Pearl Harbor Survivor, died Saturday, January 16, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Florence Olah Stoeber.

Born in Milford, CT, January 19, 1918, he was the son of the late George and Freda Ziegler Stoeber.

Mr. Stoeber graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1936, and was an experimental aircraft mechanic for Sikorsky Aircraft where he worked for more than 25 years until his retirement.

Mr. Stoeber was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving aboard the USS Whitney when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After Pearl Harbor he served as Chief Carpenter’s Mate aboard the USS Pickens that participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the Philippines. For his service, he was awarded many medals and said he was honored and proud to have served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Stoeber was a lifetime member of both the National and CT Chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association; member of the VFW Post #951, Wallingford, VFW Post #9460, Stratford; and a lifetime member of Port 5 Naval Veterans, Bridgeport.

In addition to his wife Florence, Mr. Stoeber is survived by his daughter, Amy Stoeber; grandsons, Dan Johnson and Jason Musante; granddaughter, Ellen Musante Ryan; great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Ryan and Jennifer Williams; and great-grandsons, Jack and Matthew Williams. Granddaughter, Lisa Nolan Germain (Derek) of California; grandson, Jeffrey Nolan; three great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and a great-great-grandson. Niece, Barbara Smith Domschine; great-niece, Doreen Greco; niece, Frances Smith Thomas (Al); great-nephews, Brett Thomas; niece, Pixie Smith Frost; and nephew, Walter Smith (Patti). Step-children, Vickie Balogh, William Olah (Gina), and Lisa Olah McCann (Michael); step-grandchildren, Amber Simerly, Amity Webb, Michael, Alyssa, Kaleigh and Matthew McCann, Ryan and Brandon Olah.

Predeceased by his first wife, June Taylor Stoeber; daughter, Daisy Stoeber Musante; sister, Lois Stoeber Smith; grandchildren, Robert Nolan, Laura Nolan Walker, and Marlene Musante Williams; nephews, Jack and Alfred Smith; and stepdaughter, June Rose Taylor Nolan.

A graveside service with military honors will take place on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in King’s Highway Cemetery, Milford.
