Frederick C. Rice, age 72 of Monroe, father, grandfather, a friend to many. Fred, aka Big Daddy, died Sunday morning December 8, 2013 in a tragic accident.

Born June 3, 1942 in Bridgeport to Henry and Ethel Rice, he was a graduate of Harding High School class of 1960.

Upon graduating, he enlisted in the Air Force to give his country six years of service. After being discharged Fred went to work at AVCO in Stratford for the next 30 years. Fred’s final place of employment was Show Motion, Inc. It gave him great pride to be able to build Broadway sets and to say he worked in “show business”.

Plain and simple, Fred loved to talk to anyone, if you found yourself sitting next to him which most likely be at Vazzy’s his second home, Fred would be telling someone his latest adventure in Las Vegas or where the best steakhouse is.

Predeceased by his wife, Joanne Marini Rice at a young age, Fred raised his children as a single parent. Fred was loved by all but especially by his son Richard C. Rice and his husband Michael Rodriguez of Milford, his daughter, Stephanie J. (Rice) Velotti and her husband, Nick of Monroe, his sister, Natalie Koch and husband John of Aiken, SC (formerly of Huntington), a brother, Raymond Rice of Franklin, KY and finally most importantly his grandson, Anthony Velotti and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew’s Church, 395 Anton St. Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday December, 11, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Dennis & D’Arcy - Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St., Stratford.
