Obituary: Eleanor Theresa Colombo, 93

Eleanor Theresa Colombo died peacefully in Goffstown, N.H. on Sept. 7, 2016 at the age of 93.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Colombo of Milford CT, her son, Jack Colombo and his wife, Karen of Norfolk, Va., her son Stephen Colombo of Weare, NH., her son, Michael Colombo and his wife, Jen Antonuccio of Berkeley CA., her daughter-in law, Lorraine Colombo-Booras of Port Jefferson Station, LI, N.Y. and her daughter-in-law, Kai Colombo of Groveland, MA. She leaves eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John Thomas Colombo, her eldest son, Joseph Colombo, her youngest son, Thomas Colombo, her brother, Richard Gibbons, her sister, Gertrude Gibbons, her sister, Marie Malloy and her sister, Katherine McCann.

She was born on Sept 19, 1922 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Gertrude and Richard Gibbons. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell H.S. in 1940.

She married John on D-Day, June 6, 1944. They purchased their first home in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1946 where they resided for 25 years, raising six children. She was a loving spouse and mother. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of Resurrection Roman Catholic Church in Gerritsen Beach.

In 1971 they relocated to Milford CT where they lived for 37 years until John’s death in 2009.

She was an active member of Saint Mary Church in Milford, CT. and through the years in Milford forged many long lasting friendships in the church as well as the general community. She was an accomplished gardener.

She believed deeply in the importance of family and maintained close ties to her siblings, her many nieces and nephews and her numerous cousins throughout her life.

She moved to Goffstown, N.H. in 2014, near her son Stephen, where she lived her final years at the Villager Retirement Home. The Family would like to thank the Staff of the Villager for their wonderful care and dedication for Eleanor in her last years.

There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Mary Church on Saturday, Oct 8, 2016 at 9 a.m. followed by in internment of Eleanor and John’s ashes in St. Mary Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Eleanor’s life.

The service will be followed by a reception for the family.
