Obituary: Charles J. Holland, 91, of Aberdeen, N.C., formerly of New York
Charles J. Holland, 91, of Aberdeen, North Carolina, and formerly of New York, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst, N.C.
His funeral mass was celebrated on Monday, June 13, at the Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Avenue, Southern Pines, N.C.
Born in Brooklyn on December 30, 1924, he was the son of the late John and Florence Holland.
After high school, Charles would serve his country in the U.S. Army where he was in the 11th Airborne. During his service he earned the rank of Private. Charles was wounded in action and was treated at a base in New Guinea, where he would meet Grace Ridley. After an honorable discharge, Charles would return to N.Y. and reunite with Grace and they would marry soon after.
He would hold many jobs before owning his own business as a contractor in Milford, CT., The Connecticut Contracting Co. After his retirement in 1981, Charles would move to Aberdeen, North Carolina. He had been a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and also the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Holland was the husband of 55 years to the late Grace Ridley Holland. He was the father of Florence Tibbals (Wayne) of Milford, CT., John Holland (Nancy) of Aberdeen, Bryant Holland (Elsie) of Florida, and Donna Roberts (the late Paul) of Aberdeen. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
