Carol M. Garvey, age 92, a 55-year resident of Morningside in Milford and beloved wife to the late Joseph P. Garvey, passed away at Carlton HCC in Fairfield on Monday, April 8, 2013.

Born in Erie, PA on February 9, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Isabella Carroll Hoskin.

Carol received her Bachelor’s degree from Seton Hill College of Greensburg, PA and her Masters of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. She became a social worker for the City of Pittsburgh and, when she relocated to Milford, worked for Catholic Family Services as an adoption placement specialist in Milford prior to her retirement.

Carol was a longtime volunteer as Treasurer of the Visiting Nurse Association and Recording for the Blind, the Council of Catholic Women and she also served on the Library Board for the City of Milford.

In her spare time, Carol was an avid golfer, and was a passionate sailor and enjoyed skiing.

She is survived by her children, Denis Garvey (Marisol) and Dr. Richard Garvey (Eleanor) all of Milford; four cherished grandchildren, Kristin Mahoney (Patrick), Lisa Harrison (Alan), Tucker Garvey (Amanda) and Emily Garvey. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, Patrick Mahoney, Jaida and Devin Garvey and Katharine, Rachel and Emma Grace Harrison.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 12:00 pm at St. Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford. Friends and family may call prior to the Mass on Saturday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St, Milford, CT 06460. Burial will be private.
