John Washington Hallman, age 99, of Milford, passed peacefully in his
home on Thursday, October 10, 2013, surrounded by his family and close
friends. He was born on December 4, 1913 in Baxley, GA to the late
Washington Hampton and Ann Lee Milton Hallman. Graduating from
technical school, he was employed as a draftsman for Remington Arms
until his retirement. He was an active and devoted member of the First
United Church of Christ Congregational for many years where he served as
a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. John also had a love for gardening
and farming and ensured his family, neighbors and friends never went
without fresh vegetables and flowers. John was also very active in boy
scouts in the Devon area of Milford where he guided four sons to Eagle
Scout status. Mr. Hallman is survived by his six loving children;
Thomas H. Hallman and his wife Karen of Advance, NC, Timothy J. Hallman
and his wife Wendy of Wading River, NY, Richard T. Hallman and his wife
Deborah of Richmond Hill, GA, David M. Hallman and his wife Marcia of
Milford, Susan L. O’Rourke and her husband Daniel of Braintree, MA and
Edward H. Hallman and his wife Susan of Brookfield, sisters; Winifred
Sellers and her husband Malcolm of Baxley, GA and Ann Cornwell of
Alexandria, VA, his ten grandchildren, two sister-in-laws, Catharine
Trueman and Lorraine Trueman, his dear friend and neighbor, Linda
Mossorofo and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is
predeceased by his beloved wife Rita Jean Trueman Hallman. Calling
hours are Monday, October 14, 2013 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the
Plymouth Chapel of the First United Church of Christ Congregational, 34
W. Main St., Milford with the funeral service at 11am. Interment will
follow immediately in Kings Highway Cemetery. Donations may be made in
