As part of the celebratory events recognizing the 150 Year Anniversary of the estate, Lauralton Hall has announced a live performance of They Called Me Lizzy…from Slavery to the White House as performed by the East Haddam Stage Company on Monday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. This East Haddam Stage Company’s production was written and directed by Kandie Carle. Actress Stephanie Jackson becomes Elizabeth “Lizzy” Keckly in this one-woman play on the life of Madame Keckly who was born into slavery, but through her tenacity and skills as dressmaker, purchased her freedom and launched her own business. Keckly then came to the attention of Mary Todd Lincoln, became her dressmaker (and stylist) as well as confidante and friend. With interest in Elizabeth Keckly's life heightened by inclusion in Spielberg’s movie Lincoln, the public will have a chance to experience a much fuller view of this woman’s life experience. Lauralton Hall is located at 200 High Street, Milford. This event is free and open to the public. Advanced reservations are requested by visiting www.lauraltonhall.org/lizzy or contact Sue Bonaventura at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
