Students awarded Subway scholarships

Jonathan Law High School senior Oreoluwatomiwa Opayemi and Foran High School senior Kiersten Conner each received a $2,000 scholarship from Subway® World Headquarters in memory of Subway Co-Founder Fred DeLuca at the recent Milford Chamber of Commerce Trust’s annual scholarship presentation, which was held at Subway World Headquarters on Sub Way in Milford.

“Subway was founded in 1965 by a 17-year-old with an entrepreneurial spirit and a $1,000 loan to start a business,” said Michele DiNello, Subway restaurant’s Senior Director of Communications and Events. “Our business is proof of what a young person with dedication, drive and an opportunity can accomplish. That is why we always look forward to this exciting time of year, where we can help two graduating seniors move closer to their goal of going to college and receiving an education.”

Kiersten will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in the fall, studying nursing, while Oreoluwatomiwa will be attending the University of Pennsylvania, studying in the accounting, actuarial science, entrepreneurship and finance program.
