Foran drama brings 'Hairspray' to school stage
The Foran Drama Club will present Hairspray, the Broadway musical, through special arrangement with Music Theatre International at Joseph A. Foran High School on Friday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2 and 7 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 for evening performances and $6 for the matinee. Tickets purchased at the door are $10 and $8.
The Foran Drama Club production stars Sam Martinez, junior, as Tracy Turnblad, opposite Chris Gunzenhauser, senior, as Link Larson alongside Matt Cassidy, senior, as Corny Collins and a supporting cast.
Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical.
It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire — to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network.
