For 15 years, sailors from the greater Bridgeport area have participated in one of the oldest and largest independent fundraising regattas on Long Island Sound — the Sail Park City Regatta. This major fundraising event will take place on Saturday, July 23, at the Fayerweather Yacht Club (FYC) in Bridgeport. The Regatta will be hosted by FYC and Black Rock Yacht Club in Bridgeport. Proceeds will benefit St. Vincent's SWIM Across the Sound, Connecticut's premier cancer charity.
"What makes this event special is that unlike most fundraising regattas, we receive no support from national organizations or spokespeople,” said Regatta Chair Rick Perret. “We are truly an independently run Regatta. Local citizens are supporting their neighbors in their time of need." "This year is extra special as we celebrate our 15th anniversary. Since the first event was held, we have raised close to $275,000 supporting SWIM Across the Sound, an organization that provides assistance to cancer patients and their families in the community. Of course, the value proposition of the SWIM is that all the money stays local and goes to patient support and care, not research. With so much cancer fundraising going to research, we believe the SWIM model is unique and can make real differences in the lives of those suffering from this terrible illness."
