Goodwill holds "Bag it Up!" Challenge

Goodwill of Western & Northern Connecticut announces its “Bag it Up!” challenge to local elementary schools, which encourages schools to donate goods throughout the month of April for a chance to win prizes and help the environment.

“April is Earth month, and one of the simplest ways anyone can contribute to making an impact on our environment is by reusing, recycling and repurposing items you no longer need,” said Vickie L. Volpano, president & CEO, Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut. “Items donated are diverted from local landfills, and when you make a purchase at a Goodwill store, you give bought items a new life. Revenue generated from stores helps fund programs and services serving individuals seeking independence and self-sufficiency.”

In order to participate, schools must be an elementary school and fall within Goodwill’s service territory. When making a donation at a participating donation location, you will be provided a donation slip to write the school name and indicate how many items donated.

The school with the most items donated during the month of April will receive $1,500 in American Express gift cards. There also is second and third place prizes of $500 and $250 in American Express gift cards, as well. “This challenge is a fun and unique way to share our mission and promote community while showing students the benefits of donating,” added Volpano.
