The Milford Police Department will be hosting a graduation ceremony for the sixth session of the Citizens Police Academy on Wednesday April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Milford Library community room. According to Milford police spokesperson Jeffrey Nielsen, The Milford Police Department began accepting applications for the just completed session in December of 2012. The class, made up of Milford residents and business owners, consisted of 28 participants. The graduates have gone through 12 weeks of sessions involving both classroom and hands on training. Some of that training consisted of K-9 team demonstrations, SCUBA and SRT teams demonstration, as well as technology used by the department. Trainees learned how to lift fingerprints, drive in an emergency vehicle-driving simulator and firing a police issued firearm in the gun range. In addition, each participant went with a police officer on a ride along during the patrol officer's shift. Milford police officials are expecting the graduates and their families, police commissioners, and elected city officials to attend the graduation. Also, graduates from previous Milford Police Citizen Academy sessions are\u00a0 welcome to attend. The Milford Library is located at 57 New Haven Avenue. Doors for the ceremony will open at 6:30 p.m.
