Two people were evaluated for hypothermia after their sailboat ran into difficulties Monday morning.
Bill Doolittle said his wife looked out the window of their home this morning and saw a sailboat foundering at Fort Trumbull Beach.
Bill went for a walk to have a look and saw two people poke their heads out of the cabin.
He told them to hold tight and called police and fire rescue.
Fire Department Spokesman Greg Carman said the department received a call for a boat in distress at 9:30 Monday morning.
“The 22 to 24 foot sailboat was making its way to Milford Harbor when its keel broke and become stuck off the Milford shore,” Carman said. “Fire department personnel waded out to the vessel to assist the two occupants to shore. They were then transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital for evaluation for hypothermia.”
Doolittle said the name of the boat was Swept Away.
