The Milford Police Department received a complaint from school administrators that a suspicious note implying a bomb scare was discovered in a restroom at Harborside Middle School shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The on-site School Resource Officer helped lead a precautionary evacuation to the nearby Parsons Government complex so the school could be swept for safety.
Additional police personnel were dispatched to protect the area and the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad was requested to assist in conducting the search of the school.
The State Police responded with three canines trained in bomb detection to conduct a thorough search. Shortly before 9 a.m. the school was cleared and deemed safe, allowing the students and staff to return to the building. There were no suspicious packages found during the search.
As a precaution, area municipal buildings and nearby Lauralton Hall were notified and they stayed inside their buildings as the safety sweep was being conducted.
Milford Police Detective Division is continuing the investigation to determine the origin of the note.
