The Milford Police Department plans to arrest a Milford man for making a threat that referenced Jonathan Law High School. The resident, James Piccirillo, 48, of 65 Lansdale Avenue, is being held at a medical facility and will be arrested when he is released, police said in a statement released Sunday evening.
Sources said the threat was a verbal threat that Piccirillo made about two weeks ago when talking to another person. That person later decided he should share the matter with police. Police began investigating immediately.
Police said the threat was not directed at anyone specifically at the school, and that Piccirillo has no ties to the school except for the fact that he lives on the street where the high school is located.
“Police interviewed [Piccirillo] and determined there was no present threat to the school community,” according to the police statement. “Based on the investigation, the resident was admitted to a local hospital for an evaluation.”
Police searched Piccirillo’s residence and seized firearms and commercial grade fireworks. As a precaution, the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad responded to the residence and assisted with the investigation, police said.
In a letter to the Jonathan Law High School community, School Supt. Dr. Elizabeth Feser called the threat “an indirect threat” and said police apprehended Piccirillo on Friday.
“Please know there is no threat at this time to Jonathan Law High School nor to our students and staff,” Dr. Feser’s message said.
The Milford Police Department is continuing with the investigation and is working closely with the Milford Board of Education.
