Update: Firefighters were at 157 Meadow Street Thursday at about 2 p.m. for a house fire.
Fire Spokesman Greg Carman said the homeowner was at home, heard a popping noise in the wall, checked his electrical panel and saw smoke coming from it.
He called 911 and exited the house.
Fire crews arrived to see smoke coming from the house and found fire in the basement and first floor walls.
“The fire was put out quickly, but more time was spent opening up the walls to make sure all hot spots were found and extinguished,” Carman said.
The Fire Marshal's office is still conducting its investigation on the cause. The owner will not be able to stay in the home due to the power being turned off and smoke and water damage.
