The National Weather Service in Upton, NY has issued a flash flood warning for New Haven County until 3: 30 p.m. on Friday, June 13.
The warning reads that as of 1:30 p.m., doppler radar indicated flash flooding from heavy showers over the warned area. Rainfall rates range from 1 to 2 inches per hour and some areas have picked up an inch or so of rain already. in addition this is the time of high tide and with tide cycles running astronomically high any flooding may be exacerbated.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams...highways and underpasses. additionally...country roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks. streams and other low lying areas are subject to flooding.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely.
A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warning area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.
