Daniel Street and the surrounding downtown area reopened at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday following a bomb scare that turned out to be nothing.
Vaughan Dumas of the Milford Police Department said Daniel Street was closed and downtown businesses evacuated when a scare arose concerning “an inert object” in a car in a downtown parking lot. The incident started shortly before 2 p.m.
Dumas didn’t have all the details, but he said authorities were investigating someone in a parking lot downtown on an unrelated matter and noticed the suspicious object in the person's car.
One downtown businessman said a painter may have gotten into an argument with a restaurant owner, leading to the police presence.
Dumas said the item in the car was investigated by police, fire and the state bomb squad and determined not to be a threat. The roads were reopened and business people allowed to return to work.
