Milford police charged a young Milford mother with risk of injury to a child after her toddler was found in the road Dec. 11 pushing a toy.
Police said the incident took place at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. They said a motorist called after spotting the child on Plains Road with no adult supervision. The motorist said the toddler was pushing a toy. The driver stopped and tried to return the child to the residence, but was unable to make contact with anyone, police said.
“Police arrived and were able to make contact with Nichol Phelan, 20, who was unaware her child was in the road,” said Police Spokesman Jeff Nielsen.
The child was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation, and the Department of Children and Families was notified.
Phelan has to go to court on the risk of injury charge Jan. 8.
