Police say a man who was being questioned for alleged shoplifting learned that he was also suspected of having a counterfeit $20 bill, so he ate it.
It was Sept. 11 at about 2 p.m. when police were called to Sears at the Connecticut Post Mall. Mizraim Diaz-Rivera, 42, of New Haven, was accused of shoplifting more than $120 worth of merchandise from the store. While questioning the suspect, police said they found a $20 bill in his possession that they thought was fake. When police told Diaz-Rivera they thought the bill was counterfeit, Diaz-Rivera ate the bill, police said.
