Police nab alleged Cedarhurst Lane doorbell ringer

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the ringing of a doorbell on Cedarhurst Lane in the early morning hours several times this month.

Police said they nabbed their suspect, Walter Denike, 62, of 949 Bridgeport Avenue, as he tried again to get into the Cedarhurst Lane home early Friday morning.

Officers spotted Denike in the early morning hours today as he approached the home, and they made contact with him, according to a police report.

Denike tried to flee the scene but was apprehended before he could get away. He is charged with criminal trespass, interfering with police and resisting arrest.

Denike was being held on $5,000 bond for a court appearance today.

Milford police said in their statement that they thank all those in the community that assisted in providing information on the case.

Police released photos of the suspect, who was wearing a mask, after he allegedly tried to get into the Cedarhurst Lane house July 7 at about 3 a.m. and again on July 11 at about 2:45 a.m.

Images, taken by a video camera connected to the doorbell, show a man slowly opening the screen door of the residence to check and see if it is unlocked, then ringing the doorbell.
