Police hope to launch retail consortium, host crime forum
The Milford Police Department hosted a Retailers Awareness Forum on Nov. 7 at the Rave Cinemas, and according to police spokesman, Jeffrey Nielsen, the event may be the first of many like it.
According to Nielsen, the Milford Police department and area retailers are developing a consortium that will hold periodic meetings to address concerns regarding crime.
At the Nov. 7 forum, guest speakers from the police department, U.S. Secret Service and department stores representatives from Macys and Target provided local retailers information related to current trends in crime, safety and security.
Nielsen said the event was held in anticipation of the holiday shopping season, the busiest time of year for most retail stores.
The Secret Service provided information to retailers regarding counterfeit currency detection. Speakers from Macys and Target offered insight into the threat of organized retail crime. Nielsen said that Milford police stressed the need of strengthening the partnership between law enforcement and retailers.
Nielsen said that any retailer interested in joining the consortium are welcome to call the Milford Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at 203-874-2366.
