Police: Auto shop owner illegally towed cars to his shop
A man who owns a Milford automotive shop was arrested Oct. 27 for allegedly towing cars without permission from two Stratford businesses.
Police said that Stephen Verity, 27, of Ansonia, who owns Steve’s Automotive at 219 Naugatuck Ave., Milford, towed at least 10 cars from the parking lots of the Dock Shopping Center and the Sherwood Apartments between Oct. 1 and 9.
“Verity took it upon himself to find ‘violations’ in the parking lot and towed the vehicles without the consent of the property owners as required by state law,” Stratford police said in a press statement. “Detectives completed an arrest warrant based on the investigation.”
Verity was charged with one count of first degree larceny, four counts of second degree larceny, and five counts of third degree larceny.
He is due in court on Nov. 3.
If anyone had their vehicle towed by Verity and has not spoken to police yet, they are asked to contact Detective John Therina at 203-385-4128.
