Officials investigating suspicious brush fires

Fire and police officials from Derby, Milford, Monroe, Orange, Oxford, Shelton and Stratford, along with the Connecticut State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit, are investigating dozens of intentionally set bush fires.

The fires have been occurring since October and have been reported as recently as last week, according to state police.

“The fires, often occurring in multiple locations simultaneously, have occurred on the sides of roadways in these communities, including roads leading from Route 1 to Route 34 in Orange, and along Route 34 from Orange to Oxford and Route 110 from Shelton to Monroe,” a release from state police said. “Several fires have occurred in the area of Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Stratford.”

Officials are asking the public for assistance by reporting any suspicious activity that they have observed, or may observe, in these areas to the Connecticut Arson Tip Hotline at 800-84-ARSON (800) 842-7766.

A reward of $2,500 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person, or persons, responsible for these fires. All tips will remain confidential.
