The Milford man struck and killed by a train in Stratford Wednesday was Daniel McCool, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officials said today.

McCool, 38, was struck and killed by an Amtrak train at the Stratford Metro-North station Wednesday morning.

He was hit at about 8:27 a.m. Wednesday by an Amtrak train heading from Washington D.C. to Boston, said Aaron Donovan, a spokesman for the MTA. Donovan said the train was traveling on Track 2, one of the middle tracks that is not near the platform. The train was due in Boston at 11:05 a.m.

Donovan said the matter is still under investigation.

Metro-North service was suspended between 8:59 a.m and 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.

McCool had been reported missing by the Milford police on Sept. 17, when they issued a press release seeking information about his whereabouts. At that time police said he had last been seen in Bridgeport in the area of East Main Street between Sept. 2 and Sept. 15.
