Man leads police on chase, punches officer
A resident of Orange was arrested June 19 for reportedly leading police on a motor vehicle chase, only stopping after he struck a police car, and then punching a police officer in the face.
On June 19, Milford police stopped a motor vehicle for traveling too fast and going through a red light in the area of Old Gate Lane and Woodmont Road, according to a police report.
The officers initiated contact with the driver, Frank Bontempo, 25, of 259 Currier Drive, Orange. But after stopping and speaking with officers, Bontempo fled the scene in his vehicle, police said. Bontempo’s vehicle eventually came to a stop when he struck a police vehicle.
While police attempted to place Bontempo under arrest, he punched in an officer in the face, police said. The officer was not injured, and Bontempo was transported to the hospital for evaluation from the accident.
Bontempo is charged with reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic signal, engaging police in pursuit, failure to have vehicle insurance, breach of peace, assault on a police officer and interfering with arrest.
Bontempo was held on $15,000 bond.
