A Fairfield man was charged with assault and breach of peace after he allegedly hit a man with a metal object at his former place of business.

Police said that at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 18, police responded to a Boston Post Road business. They said William Vannoy, 52, of Jarvis Court, Fairfield, had shown up at his former workplace and struck a current employee with a metal signpost.

Vannoy was arrested, and the employee was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Vannoy was released from police custody on his promise to appear in court March 15.
