A Milford man was arrested on a warrant Dec. 24 and charged with having inappropriate sexual contact with a juvenile between 2008 and 2010 in Milford.

James Maher, 45, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault in the first degree; two counts of sexual assault in the fourth degree and four counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Police said that on Oct. 15, the Milford Police Department received reports of a sexual assault that occurred in Milford between 2008 and 2010. An investigation was conducted by the Department’s Special Investigations Unit and the State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families.

“Through the course of the investigation it was determined that a James Maher did have inappropriate sexual contact with a juvenile victim in Milford, Connecticut starting in 2008 and ending in 2010,” police said in a prepared statement.

On Dec. 24, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Maher turned himself in to the Milford police after becoming aware of the active warrant for his arrest, police said.

Maher posted $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court Dec. 28.
