Milford police apprehended a man following a foot and car chase Feb. 18 after a local business reported that he tried to use illegally purchased gift cards.
Police said they got a call Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. from Town Fair Tire, 1326 Boston Post Road, about a man trying to use gift cards that were previously purchased using fraudulent credit card accounts.
Police arrived and saw the suspect trying to drive out of the parking lot. The officer positioned the patrol vehicle in front of the suspect and tried to stop him, but the suspect, Phillion Harvey, 46, of 495 Dixwell Ave., New Haven, drove out of the parking lot, striking the patrol car on the way. Police said Harvey headed south onto I-95.
State police were notified and Milford officers tried to follow the suspect onto I-95. Officers saw the suspect’s vehicle being driven erratically on I-95, according to a police report. The driver eventually crashed the vehicle into the guardrails on the Exit 38 off-ramp of the Route 15 connector.
Police said Harvey got out of the vehicle and took off on foot. Officers chased him, caught him and took him into custody.
Harvey is accused of engaging police in a pursuit; evading responsibility; interfering with police, reckless driving, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, driving with no insurance, misuse of license plate, driving a motor vehicle without a license and attempted larceny.
Harvey was released on a $15,000 bond to appear in Milford Court on March 19.
