I-95 truck fire destroyed thousands of eggs
Thousands of eggs were destroyed — as many as 300,000 — in an early morning tractor trailer fire on I-95 in Milford Monday.
The Milford Fire Department responded to I-95 North near Exit 34 for a tractor trailer fire at 4:24 a.m. Monday. The fire started in the right rear wheels of the trailer and continued to spread to the interior of the trailer, which contained 25,000 dozen eggs, according to Fire Department Spokesman Greg Carman.
The truck was headed to Springfield, Mass., from Pennsylvania and its cargo was valued at over $50,000.
“The actual fire was extinguished fairly quickly, but the emptying of the trailer and then its removal from the road lasted for hours,” Carman said.
The driver of the truck was able to get out without any injuries and there were no reported injuries to any of the fire personnel. Fire crews were cleared from the scene at 11:09 a.m.
