Grenade scare briefly closes Post Road

A World War II grenade led police to close a portion of the Boston Post Road today at about 4 p.m.

A man found a WWII grenade inside a relative’s home in Milford and didn’t know if it was a live grenade, said Police Spokesman Jeff Nielsen.

The man brought the grenade to the Milford Police Station on the Boston Post Road at about 4 p.m.

As a precaution, police called the bomb squad, closed the road and evacuated the immediate area. Police and fire officials were posted on the roadway to make sure no one got too close to the police station.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the grenade was secure and police reopened the road.
