A fire was quickly extinguished at a local manufacturing company Wednesday morning as the Boston Post Road was closed in the area and traffic re-routed.

At about 7:40 a.m., Milford Fire dispatch received a 911 call from an employee of the Drill Masters-Eldorado Tool Company located at 336 Boston Post Road reporting that there was an odor of something burning inside the building. Firefighters arrived on the scene and were told that roof work had been done the day before.

Firefighters investigated and found an active smoldering fire inside the built-up roof of the structure. Firefighters quickly opened an approximately 20' x 12' area in question with hand and power tools to expose the smoldering fire, which was quickly extinguished, according to Battalion Chief Anthony Fabrizi.

Units from Stratford and West Haven fire departments provided mutual aid coverage to the City of Milford during the incident. No injuries were reported. Employees were allowed to return to work after fire crews cleared the scene.

Milford’s Fire Marshal’s division is conducting an investigation, and an exact cause has yet to be determined.
