Fake water company workers steal cash from elderly couple

Milford police are looking for two men who pretended to be from the water company and stole $400 from an elderly couple’s home.

According to police, the incident took place Oct. 4 at about 11:30 a.m. on Joyce Court.

An elderly couple let a man into their home because he said he was from the water company and had to check the pipes in the basement.

While the couple was in the basement with the man they heard a noise upstairs. The elderly husband confronted a second man in their bedroom who was taking approximately $400 cash from the top of the dresser.

The husband said he was going to call the police, and then the man grabbed him and sat him down in a chair, preventing him from calling the police. After the wife said she was calling the police the two men ran down the road and got into a waiting car and then left the area, police said.

The car was described as a black station wagon or SUV. The couple described the men as possibly Hispanic and heard them speaking in a foreign language.
