Donuts on Thursday help support Milford's police K9s

Residents can buy a donut at two participating Dunkin’ Donuts shops Thursday, Aug. 18, and help support the Milford Police Department K9s.

Guests in Milford are invited to support local police dogs Cedar, a Labrador Retriever, and Diesel and Zar, two German Shepherds, by purchasing a specialty “Paw Print” themed donut at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants located at 275 Boston Post Road and 367 Bridgeport Avenue.

Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees the D’Andrea Group will donate the purchase price of each of these branded donuts sold that day to the Connecticut Police Work Dog Association, which provides training for the three local police dogs.

“We are always trying to support local police,” said Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee Nicole Ball of the D’Andrea Group.  “We already offer free small coffees at night to officers at our restaurants in Milford and West Haven, but we wanted to do more. Often supporting police K-9 units is not at the top of people’s minds, so we created this fun fundraiser to champion our four-legged friends.”

To kick off the fundraiser, a Milford Police Department K-9 officer and police dog will be featured on WTHN’s “Gil on the Go” with meteorologist Gil Simmons on the Milford Green, Thursday, Aug. 18 in the 6 a.m. hour broadcast. Following the broadcast, they will be at the 367 Bridgeport Avenue Dunkin’ Donuts for a meet and greet from 7 to 9 a.m.

The fundraiser will directly benefit the Milford Police Department K9 unit that serves the community by providing tracking and locating services for missing people or criminal suspects.  These dogs patrol high crime areas, according to the city’s website, and can search crime scenes for evidence, among many other duties.

Guests can pre-order specialty Paw Print themed donuts for pick-up on Thursday, Aug. 18 by calling 203-876-8600 (275 Boston Post Road) or 203-882-8800 (367 Bridgeport Avenue).
