Darien Fire says tractor trailer fire was put out before gasoline tank reached
UPDATE 3:30 p.m. — Dennis Smith of the Darien Fire Department said his department was first on the scene of a tractor trailer fire on I-95 Wednesday afternoon near Darien's Exit 13, followed by the Norwalk Fire Department.
"The operator smelled something burning," he told The Darien Times. By the time Darien Fire responded, the cab of the truck was fully engulfed in flames. The truck's tank was filled with gasoline, and Smith said they were able to put out the fire within eight minutes, before the tank was reached, which could have resulted in an explosion.
3:08 p.m. Connecticut State Police Troop G has confirmed I-95 southbound in Darien has reopened after a tractor trailer fire closed it early Wednesday.
1:27 p.m. I-95 southbound has been shut down in the Darien/Norwalk area due to a tractor trailer fire.
Connecticut State Police said no injuries are reported.Norwalk Police posted the following video to Periscope of the scene. Darien Police also advised travelers to avoid the area.
Darien's Sen. Bob Duff estimated under two hours to clear the scene and re-open.
