A man arrested for allegedly stealing items from a homeowner’s shed explained that he was “taking scrap metal...it’s what I do.”

According to an incident report, police were called to a home on High Street Jan. 18 at 9:50 a.m. on a report of a burglary in progress. The homeowner told police he saw a man taking things from the shed.

When police arrived, they reportedly found Carnell Edwards, 69, of New Haven. “When asked what he was doing, Edwards responded, ‘Taking scrap metal… it’s what I do’,” according to the police report.

Edwards was charged with burglary 3rd, larceny 6th and criminal trespass. He was held in police custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
