Stratford Harbormaster honored by United States Power Squadrons
Milford resident, Ross Hatfield was presented a 50-year plaque in recognition of his long tenure as a member of the United States Power Squadrons, a national organization dedicated to the teaching and practice of safe boating.
Hatfield recently was honored in his Fairfield office by Penfield Sail and Power Squadron Commander, Donald Peterson. Hatfield, a lifelong boater was a long time member of the Housatonic River Power Squadron which merged into the Penfield Squadron in 2011.
Hatfield appointed by Governor Jodi Rell has been the Harbormaster of Stratford Harbor since 2003. The harbormaster is the caretaker of the Housatonic River. Hatfield stated “that knowledge of, state and federal boating regulations, required safety equipment, right of way rules, the meaning of the various navigation aids, and compliance with local rules such as “no wake zones” are among the key principles of safe boating.”
Harbormaster Hatfield recommended the United States Power Squadron as a great resource for members of the public to learn or refresh their knowledge of safe boating skills. Information about USPS may be found at usps.org.
