Milford students earn college honors

Zena Abulhab of Milford, was named to the Dean's List at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, for her outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2015-16 year. Abulhab, a member of the Class of 2019, attended Joseph A Foran High School and is the daughter of Saad Abulhab and Sabine Gruber of Milford.

The University of Rhode Island announced that 4,986 undergraduates have qualified for the Fall 2015 Dean's List. The following Milford residents were on the list: Emily June Palm, Shannon Nicole Widman, Rosario P Mariano, Samantha L Corbally, Allison Marie Steele, Joseph Kubic, Christian Charles Barone, John Merva, Courtney Taylor Harrington, Nicholas Fratarcangeli, Dennis John Barnum.

Miranda Edson of Milford excelled during the Fall 2015 semester, achieving a GPA of at least 3.5 to earn a spot on the Dean's List at Hofstra University.

Lindsey Marie Seyfried has been named to the president's list at James Madison University for the fall 2015 semester. Students who earn president's list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.900 or above. Seyfried is scheduled to graduate in 2016 and is majoring in communication sciences and disorders.

The following local residents earned Dean's List honors for the Fall 2015 semester at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass.

Rachel A. Hannan of Milford. Hannan, a member of the Class of 2017, is an Accounting major at the College.

Matthew T. Shumaker of Milford. Shumaker, a member of the Class of 2017, is a Finance major at the College.

The cross-country team at Eastern Connecticut State University volunteered at the Hartford Marathon on Oct. 10, assisting athletes with disabilities through the races. Nine members of the team served as guide runners for blind athletes or those in wheelchairs; 12 members served as course marshals in the 5K, the race in which the majority of athletes with disabilities participated.

Among the volunteers was Megan McCaskill, a resident of Milford who majors in health sciences. McCaskill served as a course marshal.

Another volunteer was Rachel Mezzoni, of Milford who majors in physical education. Mezzoni served as a guide runner.

Bryce Ciccaglione was named to the fall dean’s list at UCONN's School of Business. Bryce is using his scholarship from The National Italian American Foundation to pursue a Finance degree, and plans to study abroad in Italy.

Wilkes University student Hayley Murray of Milford was named to the Dean's List for the Fall 2015 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, students must obtain a minimum 3.4 grade point average and carry at least 12 credits.

Max Garrett, of Milford, a member of the Class of 2018 at Washington and Lee University, has earned honor roll status for the recently ended fall term.

Milford resident Kira Topalian, a Northeastern University student majoring in International Affairs, was recently named to the University’s dean’s list for the fall semester, which ended in December 2015.

In addition to achieving distinction through the dean’s list, Topalian is a member of the University Honors Program, which offers high caliber students the chance to further hone their studies and interests, live in special interest on-campus housing, and participate in one or two honors courses each term. Invitation into the honors program is highly competitive and students must maintain a high GPA and strong commitment to campus leadership to remain a part.
