Police investigation clears 4 officers in Ogden shooting
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A Utah police department has concluded that its officers acted within law and policy after an investigation into a recent officer-involved shooting.
The Standard-Examiner reported Wednesday that Ogden Police Chief Randy Watt presented investigation findings to city council Tuesday after four officers shot and killed 26-year-old Jovany Mercado in August.
Authorities say the officers responded to a call about a disoriented knife-wielding man approaching people in the driveway of a home where a yard party was underway.
Authorities say the officers opened fire when Mercado ignored requests to drop the knife.
Watt says the four officers are in the process of returning to duty, but did not specify a date.
An investigation by the Weber County Critical Incident Response Team is ongoing.
