The Pastoral Search Committee at the Woodmont United Church of Christ presented its candidate for new acting pastor recently: The Rev. Care Goodstal Spinks. The Rev. Spinks is a graduate of Yale Divinity School and Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, and studied at the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale. She is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. For more than two decades she has been in ministries involving people of all ages and abilities, serving in both parish and institutional settings. From her previous work in the secular world and the church, Rev. Spinks has acquired a diverse set of skills, training and experience which she brings to her ministry, church representatives said. \u201cShe also brings a deep love of God, a strong commitment to Christ's service, and a willingness to be guided by the Holy Spirit in the creative and caring ministry she'll be sharing with us,\u201d states a church press release. Rev. Spinks will be serving half-time, 20 to 25 hours per week. As a life-long learner she continues to engage in study to help inform and equip her for the changing and challenging needs of Christian ministry in the 21st century. Currently she is engaged in a leadership training program for mindfulness-based stress reduction affiliated with the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and the Omega Institute. Rev. Spinks has received community awards for service to the marginalized; has served on the boards of non-profit organizations; and on various boards and committees of the denomination. Her husband, the Rev. Dr. Bryan D. Spinks, is a professor of liturgical studies and pastoral theology, and serves on the faculty of Yale Divinity School, the Institute of Sacred Music, and Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. He is an ordained priest in the Church of England, and officiates at Sunday worship in the Middlesex Area Cluster Ministry in the Episcopal tradition.
