Milford Scouts will again lend helping hands to collect and sort food over a 48-hour period so the Milford area’s less fortunate families can celebrate Thanksgiving this year.

The Scouts will camp out at Milford’s Wasson Field over two days, — Friday, Nov. 13 at noon, until Sunday, Nov. 15 at noon — collecting and sorting food donations from residents and staffing tables at local supermarkets. They will be collecting frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items and monetary donations and all proceeds will go to the cause.

Milford Family Service will be on hand, along with Cub Scouts Packs 7, 13, 17, 709, 712, 196, 115; Boy Scout Troops 1, 196, 303, 926; Venture Crew 303 and Girl Scouts 38310 and 38370.

The collection aims to provide an estimated 350 Milford families with Thanksgiving meals, and to provide food to the Beth El Shelter and Milford Food Bank and various other food distribution charities.

Over the last 10 years, Milford Scouts have collected more than 85,000 pounds of food and 2,300 turkeys; and received more than $15,000 for the cause.

Individuals will be able to drop off food or money the weekend of the event at Wasson Field, which is the Parsons Complex parking lot, or one of Milford’s Stop & Shop, ShopRite or Adams supermarkets.
