Milford Hospital’s annual Mother’s Day 5K welcomes community cheerleaders

Runners, walkers, volunteers and interested sponsors are invited to participate in Milford Hospital’s  19th Annual Mother’s Day “Live Well” race on Sunday, May 10.
The 5K run/walk race begins at 9 a.m.
After record registration last year, hospital officials expect more than 600 individuals to take part in the event this year.
The race starts and finishes at Milford Hospital, 300 Seaside Avenue in Milford.  It follows a scenic, seaside course through the Fort Trumbull area.
Chip timing technology will track the runners. Awards will be given to the top three males and females in each age group and the top three Milford Hospital employees. All the race proceeds support the many community health and wellness programs, cancer and prevention screenings and educational programs and materials offered by Milford Hospital throughout the year.
“The past 18 years have proven to be a great success,” said Karen Kipfer, the hospital’s director of community relations. “With the event taking place on Mother’s Day, many families from near and far participate as healthy, fun way to kick off Mother’s Day. We are proud to be able to offer this unique family event that supports a great cause.”
Online registration is underway at;  registration will also be taken by mail.
Entry fee for those registered by May 3 is $15 for those aged 17 and under and $25 for all others. The fee will be $30 after May 3 and on race day. Early check will be offered on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9.  Runners and walkers registered by May 3 are guaranteed to receive a “Live Well” race t-shirt. Others will be distributed on a first-registered, first served basis. Following the race, there will be an outdoor continental breakfast.
New this year, event organizers are hoping to involve the community in “spirit” activities and cheerleading for the field of participants. Residents along the route are encouraged to creatively show their support of race day participants. Suggested spirit activities include: Decorating your yard, playing music (live or recorded), cheering in costume and more.
To enter your home in the “spirit contest” contact the Community Education Department 203-876-4004. Homes will be judged by the race committee and the home deemed most “cheerful” will be awarded a prize.
Volunteers are needed along the race route to offer water, direct runners and help with safety.
