Chairman of Medicine at Milford Hospital, Dr. Robert Lewis, was recently recognized as an outstanding faculty member of the Yale University School of Medicine.

At an annual dinner on Oct. 29, Dr. Lewis was presented with the Yale University School of Medicine 2015 Annual Award for Excellence in Teaching Subspecialty Ambulatory Care Internal Medicine to Medical Students.

The award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated exemplary teaching skills and “who begins instruction by observation, delegates responsibility according to preparedness, inspires achievement by example and encouragement and always leads students to a standard of uncompromising excellence in patient care.”

Medical students nominate a faculty member to the awards committee who select the recipient of this distinction.

Dr. Lewis, a cardiologist with Cardiovascular Physicians and Consultants, has been affiliated with Milford Hospital for nearly 25 years. He is the chairman of medicine and former chief of staff. In 2011, he was awarded the hospital’s Physician Award for Clinical Excellence.

“Dr. Lewis is a role model to his colleagues and his students,”  said Joseph Pelaccia, Milford Hospital president and CEO. “He exemplifies the mission, vision and core values of Milford Hospital in providing quality, compassionate and patient centered care.

“As a recognized expert in our hospital and community, Dr. Lewis consistently demonstrates his commitment to his patients, colleagues and future physicians,” Pelaccia continued. “The entire Milford Hospital family takes great pride in working with him and joins me in congratulating him.”

Milford Hospital is a non-profit community hospital serving more than 80,000 patients from Greater New Haven and Fairfield County annually.
